Subject:Re: Bx3 to C1. Any views??
I agree with Bruce on this.. I own a BX3 and have played the C1.
I love the BX3 which I play through my Speakeasy preamp and my
hopped up 147 leslie.. the sound is fantastic (you'd be hard pressed
to tell it from a real hammond B3).. it looks pretty close to a B3
on stage, it has a substantial "presence" and solid feel to it.. It
has one of the best leslie sims around. It's not particularly heavy
(76 pounds) to move around, it has real drawbars, so if you want an
experience (both playing and the B3 look while performing) the BX3
is VERY close to the real thing without the weight, the BX3 is an
excellent choice. From my perspective the only negative thing about
the BX3 is the lack of support for pedals.
That said, I am probably going to move to a C1 myself, because I'm
just getting too darn old (53) to cart around the BX3 and a real
leslie speaker. In doing so I will lose the drawbars, the B3 look,
the substantial feel of the BX3, the real sound of "air moving" from
a leslie sitting behind me. But I won't need a van to move my gig
rig around anymore, and I'll have a 37 pound organ that sounds great
that I can move in the back of my car.
I will miss the drawbars absolutely, but my back won't hurt so much,
I will have a very light weight rig with a smaller "footprint" for
smaller venues.
It really boils down to your priorities.. by the way, I will
probably end up selling my BX3... it's in mint shape with a
hardshell case and all the original boxes(there's only one minor
mark on the finish), a speakeasy preamp, and a kick-ass 147 if
anyone is interested. Send me a note off line.. I'm located in
Markham Ontario
