Subject:Re: Bx3 to C1. Any views??
I own a C1 but have only played the BX3 and CX3 in stores. A few
things to consider:
1) C1 is much lighter and more portable.
2) C1 doesn't have real drawbars.
3) C1 action is a little on the stiff side.
4) BX3 action is more susceptible to accidental double-triggering. I
think there was a firmware update to address this for the CX3/BX3, but
I don't know how it affects MIDI triggering, if you want to use it as
a controller.
5) C1 sound engine is the latest gen. and sounds great.
6) BX3/CX3 has a very colored C/V, IMO.
If you're main concern is feel, then as long as the double-triggering
issue was properly addressed, the BX3 might be the better solution for
you. Sound-wise, though, the C1 is great and also has Vox and Farfisa
emulators, if you're at all interested in that.
Regarding (1) and (2), I actually have found now that I like the
portability of not having the drawbars for times when I don't need
them. But if I do feel like I need them, I just MIDI up an external
drawbar controller. This lets me decide if I want a light and fast
setup, or a more time-consuming, full setup.
The one silver lining of point 3 is that the bit of extra resistance
makes it more usable as a controller for velocity sensitive sounds, if
you want to use it for that. I find the shallow trigger point of the
C1 makes the slightly stiffer action a non-issue for me, anyway, when
playing organ. The trigger point is deeper for MIDI Out, if it's set
to transmit velocity. The BX3 must work the same way.
