You are doing the right thing. I mean, if you use another midi keyboard on the top of XK for the upper manual, you just use the split function. That's the only way, I think. I tried a lot of things, and I ended up talking to the tech Ray at Hammond, he told me that was the only way. So, if you use XK as a lower manual, you just use the split function. That's what I did. I used XK-1 and doepfer midi keyboard. I worked well, and I still use them when I have to play outside because I don't want my Nord C1 get dusty. Anyway, it's just one note, like you siad. But, it's not that much big deal to me.
