Get a tube preamp and then a very good full range amplifier, or PA cabinet. You can't get tone on a diet (god knows I've tried), and you end up sacrificing something. I try not sacrifice tone or playing enjoyment.

I know this question has been asked before many times, so apologies
first off, but i'm still left wondering. I'm currently using a Nord C1,
and i am trying to decide what my best amp setup might be. Sometimes i
gig with a Leslie, ok fine when i can, but i can't always be bothered
to lug it and the C1 sim is so good to my ears that i can justify being
lazy sometimes. Problem then is what amp to use as my backline. I've
tried a solid state guitar amp and it's terribly shirll, i've tried a
solid state bass amp, and that was ok but uninspiring. I've tried a
personal PA system, that was ok but defeats the object of not bringing
a leslie, by the time i've carried an Amp and 2 speakers etc. Also,
although i love the leslie effect on the C1, I also miss the tube
warmth of the real Leslie, I've been wondering about a valve combo as
this will have warmth and it's small but i'm told a valve guitar combo
would be all wrong in terms of sound as its not full range. I know
organ players used to use Fender twins etc to amplify Vox and Farfisa's
and i do use these sounds a lot on the C1 too.
I used a Fender Twin for a while with an XK3, which worked well, but
the C1 is totally different beast. I've also read that vintage valve
PA's are a good choice, but they are hard to find, unreliable and heavy.
Ideally i want something compact, warm, readily available in UK, and
wont cost me thousands of pounds.
Does anyone have any ideas perhaps on how a valve guitar amp could be
modified to work better for organ, or is there a manufacturer that
makes a valve combo that has a more full range that would better suit
organ?
