Thomas,

Sounds like a great idea.
I myself don't have a problem with the typical "inside the brain" sound of headphones since I worked with it all my life.
My problem with leslie sims (I know very well: NI B4 and B4II, VB3 and Ham-Suz XK-3)
is that the treble horn never sounds right (the "pumping" bass drum rotor is usually fine). One thing is always missing: when the open bell passes the ear (or mic), there are dramatic timbric (not just pitch, phase and volume) changes which provide "bite" and that beautiful bell-like sound - is 'floats' on slow and 'sizzles' on fast and speed changes provide the goosebumps, especially fast to slow, which must be one of the greatest sounds ever - works great with or without C-3 chorus/vib. If I listen to a recorded real leslie speaker, I can "see" the horn even with standard headphones. Leslie sims don't have that power (yet). So when I practice or record with headphones, I change the leslie speed out of routine, not because I feel and love the sound. Well  I don't "suffer", but I don't cry tears of joy either...
If we are lucky one last leap in quality will occur in a few years and we are comfortable even with headphones. So real leslies will provide the very best sound with simulators a close second (and highly recommended in certain venues and in home studios). I look forward to that day.

Still: thanks for sharing your idea. Sounds good.

Some of you however may be taking advantage of the latest Leslie
simulators, provided by the likes of the XK3C, XK1, C1, and maybe
Diversi, and you may on occasion be forced to wear headphones.

( Late night playing, practice, recording etc )

Should that be the case, you may be interested in the following... .

A while ago I bought a Dolby Headphone amp that was designed to be
used with full surround video/DVD so that the two earpieces fed with
its encoded Dolby Surround sound could be heard realistically.
