Subject:Sounds mad but it really works.
No doubt most of you folks spend most of your playing time with amps
blazing, and if not actually with wheels spinning, at least with horn
and drum spinning.
Some of you however may be taking advantage of the latest Leslie
simulators, provided by the likes of the XK3C, XK1, C1, and maybe
Diversi, and you may on occasion be forced to wear headphones.
( Late night playing, practice, recording etc )
Should that be the case, you may be interested in the following....
A while ago I bought a Dolby Headphone amp that was designed to be
used with full surround video/DVD so that the two earpieces fed with
its encoded Dolby Surround sound could be heard realistically.
Not only does it do movie sound but it also encodes music, so that
listening is a more 'out of head experience' like listening to
speakers.
Not only does this sound a lot more natural so that sound
appears 'out there in front' rather than between your ears, but it
provides the same apparent sound from the Leslie sim as you get
listening to a pair of stereo speakers.
The amp runs off two (I'm using optional re-chargeable) AA batteries,
and the unit is very small.
I've used this kind of amp for a few years now.
I recently purchased a Hanmmond XM-2 module and having midi'd it up
have been playing it through this system. The batteries died on me
this morning so I decided to plug my phones into a regular stereo
headphone socket.
The result was that I couldn't move quick enough to replace the
batteries and get back to Dolby Headphone. The XM-2's output through
Dolby Headphone is stunning and just as enjoyable as when listening
to speakers. Nord C1 just the same.
Unfortunately these amps seem to be being phased out. Certainly none
left in the UK as far as I know, but there are one or two still left
on the other side of the pond.

As always YMMV but I wouldn't be without one of these beauties.
In fact I've got a spare in case one dies on me. I just turn off the
Prologic and use the DH1 or DH2 setting.
