The screamo/emo band Paramore incorporated Hammond tracks recently on their latest album. They were done by a HAM forum member John Freund, who likes to remain somewhat anonymous.

Anyway this points to a trend to incorporate the venerable Hammond once again into music that 15 year olds are listening to.

Shredders will always be there and they are for those that love that kind of art. Saying something fast, melodic, with emotion is another thing altogether.

Rap, we just don't understand it, and is just one of those things that we need to come to grips with, having had the pleasure of helping a Black Eyed Peas member with his solo album, it is obvious from the sales this group has made that there is a loyal audience and of all the rap groups, BEP is one rap group I can tune into, while the others, I just can't get, try as I might. And it's me, not them...

I saw a Simpsons re-run the other day. Homer was trying to look cool to Bart, Lisa and their friends. Homer picks a station while in the car, Mississippi Queen comes on, Leslie West, my favorite guitar player btw, of which Bart lambastes, telling Homer his music is not cool. They go to a concert the kids like, Smashing Pumpkins is on stage, followed by talk box king, Peter Frampton.? Pumpkins' Billy Corgan got all the kid's attention, Frampton had his cooler raided while he was performing, by kids who told him he didn't need all that water..

Emotion is definitely the selling factor in any music. The problem is, who's emotions are we dealing with? The last wave of EMO bands, the genre's tag comes from the word Emotion.

I've seen clones being played by many newer bands. The purists drag out the B. Friends of mine did riders for an Incubus concert, Incubus's keyboardist sported an XK33. Easy to move. Has that B3 vibe however streamlined.

I listen to a lot of country lately on KSON-FM 92.1, 97.3 for those of you in the San Diego area, and there is where you'll find a lot of Hammond. Country is a step behind what was hot in rock and hence the staples get regurgitated. What I mean is, these are fresh recordings not oldies but goodies being rotated on a classic rock station.

Listening now to Kid Rock on KSON do a rap, needle drop version of Sweet Home Alabama that he titled All Summer Long, most of the music bed and guitar licks, but he changed the words...

As the world offers disharmony, we turn to comfort food, and that is music with harmony we can understand. It is definitely more comforting to hear a Hammond track, specially on new songs.

Listening to Kenny Chesney's "everybody wanna go to heaven but nobody wanna go now" with some Hammond laced into it.

It's comforting to hear new, well recorded and played Hammond guys do their thing.. gets me emotional...
