Well, that may be part of the 'problem', if there is one. I don't know
anything about leslie cabinets and therefore nothing about their
dispersion patterns. However low frequencies are, for all practical
intents and purposes, omni-directional while higher frequencies can be
more directed using a properly shaped horn. This is called pattern
control in PA.

I know a leslie rotates but I bet the 'tweeter' section of a leslie is
directed somewhat, meaning that at a distance the maximum high/low
ratio (measured at the moment the horn faces your direction) the highs
will fall of at a faster rate. This is similar to the proximity effect
that you get with microphones: the closer you get the boomier your sound.

Also the leslie only rotates in the horizontal plane so regardless of
the rotation if you are very close you may be standing well above the
center horn in the horizontal plane whereas if you are standing at a
longer distance you will get more into that plane. Again the lower
frequencies are practically omni-directional so it won't matter where
you stand (in terms of angle, not distance) but the higher frequencies
wills simply miss their target.

In other words: what does it sound like from a distance? Similar to
what you are used to hear in that position?

I guess you're strictly an organ player, not synths :-) In my
experience updating firmware isn't all that big of a deal, but I know
what the Korg web site says about it requiring a skilled technician or
something along those lines. A load of crap imo, they just don't want
the responsbility and hassle of dealing with the 0.01% of cases
wheresomething went wrong (for example if the power went out during
the update; then you're screwed). But for the record and to cover my
own behind: I will not be resposible if you do try and do screw up ;-)

in Ver.2.0. It opens up a new range of tonal possibilities, and is
useful when making organ sounds that are not quite similar to a
Hammond. It also makes it possible to use the overdrive effect when
using a real Leslie speaker.
