Subject:Re: Future of the Organ

I read an interesting essay on what direction the latest fads are going.... What is in is what
looks or seems "Genuine." It doesn't have to be genuine, just has to seem that way.
Artwork that looks indigenous, homemade food with fresh herbs, natural plaster walls,
organic handwoven fabrics, and music that connects back to the masters. Thus we have
the eclectic movement in music. Are we a part of that? I really don't care because I'm not
that concerned with if I am cool or not. Its just kind of weird that this could be so
insulting to what really is real. My opinion is that music is good if it the aim is quality
rather than money or cool, and if the artist puts his whole self into it. I wish everyone
would judge music that way instead of the narrow minded view most people have.

I think that's why I love most kinds of music that aren't mainstream right now. Have you
ever seen the video for the making of the first Buena Vista Social Club CD? Old Cuban men
who thought their music was washed up, had the chance of a lifetime to play again, this
time for an international label, and when you watch them play, you can see their love for
the music. And when they got to play at Carnegie Hall, man did they appreciate that!

I'm running on, but your comment about the fake gyrations of musicians brought up a lot
of thoughts..
