Subject:Future of the Organ
I believe the organ is well respected and appreciated by many musicians, but the common
person has no idea where the various sounds come from in the music they listen to.
Because the organ is usually not in a position to face the audience, where they can watch
the performer, they focus on what they see, the singers, guitarists, and the flying hands of
the drummer. Thus we see a world of music full of organ, and full of ignorance of the
organ. Most people who listen to me say, "That sounds like church, funeral music." (I was
playing jazz and latin standards and rock and roll. And I was not be playing badly.) They
say this because they don't know any better. And this is the majority, the ones who buy
the albums, who send the message to the music industry of what they want.
I believe that the future of this genre depends on educating the public. They appreciate it
more if they understand it. Whether we play professionally, or for guests in our living
room, they will enjoy it much better if we teach them a little about what is the organ, the
KING of instruments.
