...that sounds like it is a suggestion only to simplify the use of the
VK-8m. Have you actually tried the non-"single keyboard' setting? Most
likely the V8-m will then respond to a separate MIDI channel for each
'part' and you can program you controller accordingly.

The VK-8m can NOT tell whether MIDI note on/off messages are coming
from a sequencer or played live from a keyboard. The rigid
determination of what mode is best for what purpose in the manual does
not apply in your case.

And that is not what you want in your case so why use that mode?
