Using the 8M in the studio I find the opposite to be true. Running the 8M through a 222, using s Goff Prof 100 watt? horn driver, original Jensen 15", and Goff Prof xover, the OVERDRIVE knob is only good for about one or two clicks about 7 or 8 o'clock. After that., it gets too distorted. The high end shrillness out of this set up is addressed by the preamp before the 222. The gain coming from the preamp, not the 8M.

What some people might be missing is the fact that the OVERDRIVE knob is
also somewhat of a tone control. I have to set mine from about 12 o'clock to 2
o'clock ( on AMP TYPE 1 ) to get a "fat" tone. AMP TYPE 3 gives a VERY fat
tone and plenty of overdrive.
