Subject:Re: C1...Diversi
The C1 sounded REALLY really good. I actually took one home for two weeks, but here's the problem: I could not make it fit into my rig. Because it was a dual manual, it's depth made it unstackable. I couldn't put it on top of my A90 because then I couldn't reach the drawbuttons and control surface; I couldn't put under my a90 for the exact same reason. I can't afford the real estate on stage for an L shaped rig, and to be honest, I don't like that set-up. I struggled for two weeks trying to make it work, but I honestly couldn't make it go.
And while I have gotten along fine with the drawbuttons (and use them to control B4 in lieu
of dragging my Voce Mididrawbars to gigs), I really do prefer the drawbars as they are
more inspiring to play (and therefore I do!). The drawbuttons weren't a deal breaker for me,
but the size/layout of the C1 was.
And you're right, there is a real difference in the C1 organ and the Stage organ; the Stage organ isn't that different from the Electro, but the C1 really upped the ante.
I record almost all my gigs, and I must say, the Electro is continually spanked by B4 whenever I use the Electro. I'll never sell it, it's a great board, but there are certain inadequacies... I'm actually forcing myself tonite to use my XK1 without a Roadbox. I've tweaked the leslie hard this week, and as an experiment, am going to see which sounds better, B4 or XK1.
The Diversi intrigues me, it really does. and I like the fact that like a Hammond, it looks like I can stack a keyboard on top of it (my A90); its weight doesn't bother me as it seems like
a keyboard that heavy will beg to be leaned on, smeared on, and "chopped" on. (Yeah!)
But I gotta see it.

What about the Nord C1 - did/do you have one? - just the LED's vs
drawbars? Owners seem to think its Leslie simulation has no equal.
Even Steve at SE loves his Stage - with the two cabs and stereo amp,
which wouldn't apply to what you want for amps - but is a good
example of no-Leslie sound.
IMO the C1 is even a step up from the Stage group Tonewheel-wise. I
think it's got the greatest "guts" sound out there, all drawLED's
pulling their weight evenly etc... AND even more important: No
more "This drawbar is thin or weak compared to that one in this/that
octave or the full keyboard. The drawbar you pull is what you get,
even, smooth, volume right on for the entire registration.
