If you're a linux fan and have the knowledge you could.
But be prepared for having to deal with a special kind of people and
having to invest lots of time for figuring things out and sorting out
annoying little problems.

If you want to do it under Windows, check out

Makes any VSTi standalone. You could easily put shortcuts to a few of
these in the startup menu so the instruments start at bootup. Savihost
remembers settings including midi channel etc.
