Hi Lou,

I wouldn't use a cleaning solvent on any of the moving parts -- bearings, motor shaft, etc. Actually, I use Hammond Oil for most of my Leslie work. It's thin enough to use as a solvent, although it takes more elbow grease to do the job that way. If a thin motor oil is used, the motor parts don't have to be cleaned spotless. The main point is to make sure that the motors are well lubricated. The small motors don't need much, as they use a lot of Delrin parts on moving surfaces. A very light oiling goes a long way. Once the main gunk is removed from the large motors, apply Hammond Oil to the wire-wool "sponges" that surround the motor bearings. These can be seen through the small holes that surround the shaft. Oil them well with Hammond Oil until they appear saturated. That should suffice for a very long time. The Leslie motor control system was heavily over-designed.

Regards,

-BW
