Subject:California Roadbox 3C test driver report
Hi clonewheelers, greetings from sunny ca. (it's actually raining
here in LA this weekend for the first time in many months!)
Played in Pasedena last weekend at the mall with the Blues Gypsys
complete with 3 piece horns for the first time with the roadbox and
everybody was blown away by the sound. That diaphragm must have been
defective, I have not had any more problems. The only thing I could
say about the sound is I was getting a little too much grind at
times, but not often.
Anyway, that doesn't matter now because I sent the AMA back for my
free upgrades (isn't that cool!). Steve tells me that one setting
will be smooth and creamy and the other with all the grind I'll ever
need.
I am truly a happy guy with my RB3C. It was a lot of money, even at
the test driver price, but worth every penny. I don't honestly think
that I need 600 watts of power. 250 is enough, its always going to be
miked anyway. I do play with a couple of very noisy bands (The Blues
Gypsys being one) and there is tons of volume to spare. The whole
thing fits across the back seat of my XJ6 and is easy to load for me.
My whole V5/doepfer rig has been completely refigured. Because I
didnt need the old preamp on the rack any more I made up a new rack
off to the side holding both V5's at an angle, plus the reverb and
expression circuit. This has allowed me to lower the keyboards down
which is much more comfortable. Its a work in progress but so far I
am really liking it.
I have posted pics of everything in a new folder called;
Steve's new V5/Doepfer RB3C Rig
Last weekends show was all videoed so maybe I'll get some copies to
post sometime soon after its edited.
I think "rock on" is better than "peace out" so:
ROCK ON
