Subject:Yamaha NP 30
Well, I went and checked this thing out and this is what I came up with.
The good thing is the piano sound. It is excellent. I particularly liked the
stereo piano, and the vibraphone was pretty nice too.
The electric pianos did not seem usable to me . Why the heck can Casio put a
decent electric piano sound in a toy while Yamaha puts a DX7 sound in this?
I have seen Yamaha do this over the years....and I still think it is
because they do not want to give their higher end instruments any competition.
The feel of the keys is also a puzzle to me. The did not really seem semi
weighted as claimed. And I did not detect gradual weighting to any great degree.
To me they felt like typical unweighted keys, so it was not really what I
was hoping for.
Damn. After a couple glowing reports, I will have to pass on this one. It
has a good acoustic piano sound, is extremely light and also has plenty of
headphone output. The keys are so light it might be able to double as an organ
clone controller. As far as semi weighted key feel goes, I still prefer the CME
which seems to be the only decent semi weighted device out there that I am
aware of.
