Subject:Re: OT - Yammy NP30 Piano
The NP30 looks nice (black plastic case with "Yamaha" logo on side facing audience, 76 piano-style keys, 49"x10"x4"). It has 10 sounds: two Grand Pianos (the 2nd is brighter); E.Piano 1 (DX7-bell like), E.Piano 2 (Rhodes), two organs (both variations of a pipe organ), two harpsicords, strings and vibes) and is not expandable. I use primarily the Grand Piano 1 and the E.Piano2 sound and have layered the Strings with both on occasion. For my needs, these sounds work just fine. I love the action. It's light, graded, can easily be played with expression and is adjustable. There's a sustain jack (can be half-pedaled) and can run on 6-AA cells or a voltage converter. It even contains stereo 6W speakers and has a decent sized detachable music stand. The whole piano weighs in at TWELVE POUNDS (minus the batteries). The price is right as well - $300!

PS... CONS - It utilizes the headphone jack for it's stereo output. I use a stereo plug going into two 1/4" jacks that I plug into an amp. I run the piano's volume control at about 80% and it's sounds fine. The only sound I would have missed on this piano is a Clavinet but since I've been happily using the one in the XK-1, it's a non-issue.
