Hi All,
"Loudness robbing" is an intentional feature of the Hammond Organ. Simply put, the more notes/harmonics triggered, the less volume to each part. It was added to try to balance the volume between drawbar settings like 808000000 vs 888888888, and is part of the reason why nichrome wires were used for the TG interconnects. Loudness robbing also tends to compress the volume of chords vs. single notes.
Different Hammonds have varying levels of loudness robbing, but it's generally a mild function in a well-maintained organ. I have played Hammonds that have a very pronounced effect -- i.e., playing a three-note chord in the right hand, then adding an octave bass figure drops the volume by 6dB or more. Usually, this is in some old "road warrior" organ, with poor internal grounding; the level of hum and crosstalk is usually higher in these cases, too. Perhaps Clavia used such an organ as its model when creating their organ software? Just a guess.
Regards,
-BW
