Have you tried dampers on your pre-amp tubes? What you're describing
(robbing vibratory mojo) is not what they do at all. If anything, they
enhance overdrive and allow it to fully develop while not being
adversely effected by microphonic noise. Try them and see. Herbie's
dampers have a full 90-day "send them back if you're not satisfied"
guarentee. The Sandyphoto brand are satisfaction guaranteed too, for
30 days if I remember correctly. You've got nothing to lose besides
unwanted, vibration induced, microphonic noise. It's that simple. They
don't provide a "miracle", and there is no "Voodoo" science involved.
They just simply work and cancel-out noise that a vibrating tube can
produce.

If you have a single-tube pre-amp, I can send you my extra pair of
Sandyphoto 12AX7/ECC83 sized dampers and you can evaluate them for
yourself. Send them back when your done for the cost of 2 regular
letter stamps. Private e-mail me if you want to take me up on the
offer. When you send them back, I'll offer them to the next forum
member that would like to "try them before you buy them".

If you need more than a pair for evaluation, I don't have the extras.
