Has anybody here replaced the woofer in their kc-550 for the purpose
of more headroom? If so, do you have any recommendations on a
particular speaker?

Have you considered running the VK-77 thru a pair of powered
speakers? You can run the VK in stereo that way and the sound is much
better. Powered speakers, unlike keyboard or guitar amps, are full
range and reproduce the keyboard sounds with greater audio fidelity.
The JBL EON G2 15" or something similar in a Mackie or EV would make
that VK-77 really come alive. You'll have incredible volume with the
JBL as the G2 15 has 300w low end and 100w high end. I think you
would be much happier with the powered speaker setup rather than the
KC-550...and you can also use the powered speakers for PA and/or
monitors if you so choose.
