Thanks Tony. I'm still feeling the love for the VCombo. Although it is still a bit heavy in the hauling department. I use it on top of my Roland 300sx stage piano.

I appreciate the feedback.

I bought the Vcombo cuz I could only take one keyboard. I like the VK organs well enough (meaty, thick, good grind sounds, decent sim), and the pianos were decent enough, and I put the Ultimate expansion in so I could layer the Stage Grand with the onboard pianos. Easy to program splits and everything I needed. Okay compromise for playing organ and piano from one board. But after 40 consecutive days of gigs, my hands actually hurt. (I've done similar tours using my Motif 8 and an XV88 without that issue.) I sold it when the tour was over. I saw/heard video from that tour and I was pleasantly surprised at how good the organ sounded from the VK. The pianos were decent. I'd actually buy another one if I could find one cheap enough.

But the sounds on the Electro are superior; the organ is much sweeter, but doesn't grind as well as the VCombo. Percussion on the Vcombo is better, chorus/vib on Electro is better. Vcombo has drawbars! Electro sim better. (but the vcombo's sounded better on tape than I thought it did live) The Electro's electric pianos and clavs spank the Vcombo. But the Vcombo is multi-timbral.

The Stage is the true competitor to the Vcombo, and of course is about $800 more, but does have improvements up and down, including the ability to layer 6 things (the Vcombo could do 3 if I remember right).

The VCombo was a unique product and was relatively successful at what it was trying to accomplish.

Tony,

I'm currently playing a Roland VCombo and would like to hear your comments
between that and the Nord. I was choosing between the two and went with the
VCombo because I heard it could be better acting as a controller than an
Electro which doesn't necessarily use standard midi commands etc. I believe that
it uses the VK8 engine.

Can I get your experiences on the VCombo?

Thanks,
Gene
