Subject:RE: XK-1 Warranty

I would forward this email to Guitar Center corporate, and demand some satisfaction. I would also publicly divulge this asshole's business and contact info so that none of us ever knowingly patronize MR. KORG or his business.

If you are buying it from Guitar Center I would say save your money on the
warranty at least in this case because anything made by Hammond-Suzuki you
will have a problem.

This is because the extended warranty coverage is serviced by a contract
repair center in Southern California and not by Hammond-Suzuki.
Hammond-Suzuki has been wonderful to deal with and were super-helpful, but
the guy that runs this contract service center hates everything Suzuki and
has a monstrous ego and very eccentric personality.

He started out being very nice, but keeping me on the back burner. I was
very nice too and patient. After not hearing from him for several weeks, I
politely inquired. He got back to me and told me that Suzuki sucked and
that they didn't know what they were doing and he was fed up with them. I
told him that surprised me, because they had been great to deal with. He
lectured me about evil Suzuki and in that conversation I discovered that he
was calling Suzuki in California, not Hammond-Suzuki in Chicago.

I tried to help him out (in the most patient, friendly and sympathetic way)
by trying to put him in contact with Hammond-Suzuki in Chicago and he
refused to acknowledge or call them. He kept telling me that Suzuki was in
Southern California and that they didn't have a part. He got very
frustrated with Suzuki, but he was totally mentally blocked from any helpful
input. Did I say that he has a monstrous ego?

I finally had Ray call him directly from Hammond-Suzuki tech support in
Chicago and he offered to send him the part, but this guy flipped out and
was unwilling to acknowledge that he was wrong to deal with Suzuki in
California. He told me that he wouldn't touch my keyboard and insisted that
he return it.

I had been very patient and friendly with him (I'm a smart people-guy) until
he told me he just wouldn't work on it since it was a Suzuki. At that
point, I vented my anger at him, since he had the keyboard for many weeks
and did nothing to it and refused to listen to polite attempts to help him.
He kept insisting that Suzuki was in California and that I didn't know what
I was talking about and he was offended when Hammond Suzuki called him
directly and tried to help him.

When I went to pick up the keyboard he actually frightened me (and I'm a big
guy.) He put his arm around my shoulders and forced me to tour his facility
while he did a tirade on how he was the biggest repair center in North
America and really was the SHIT. He told me he was MR. KORG and how happy
he is to be their go-to repair guy. I wanted to tell him to get his hands
off of my body and leave me alone but I was tired and I just wanted my
keyboard and to go home so I took his bullshit tour and left.

Guitar Center was very polite and conciliatory about this, but did nothing
to help me except offer to refund my warranty money, which I just realized
they have not done. Time for a phone call.

I have spent some real dough at Guitar Center and have found them polite and
easy to deal with and suspect that they are doing a legitimate warranty
service with an independent contractor who just happens to be dealing with a
guy who hates Suzuki.

The beautiful part of this story is the wonderful way that Hammond Suzuki
pitched in and helped me. In the end, they offered to repair the keyboard
without charge because of how I got jerked around.

Subject: [CWSG] XK-1 Warranty

Hi Folks,

I've ordered an XK-1, this is my first clonewheel of any sort. The salesman
asked me if I wanted to buy an extended 3-year warranty. I usually skip
these things, and have never been asked for one on a keyboard before, so I
was surprised by the request.

I presume this model is well-built, tho one never knows. Looking for
opinions, do you think it's worth the $200 for a 3-year extended warranty?
Salesman notes that to bring the 'board in for repair is about $100 for
starters, so I wonder. I tend to side with the "that's how they make their
money" argument, but I'm considering playing it safe.

I've read a lot of great info on here since joining, you guys know your
stuff and are a great resource. My XK-1 will be situated over a Roland
Rd-700, and will go thru a Motion Sound Pro-3X, into a Behringer mixer, into
a JBL EON. I play in a band in Central Mass, hope the XK-1 comes in before
this weekend's gig.

Thanx in advance,

WesO
