Subject:OT: The Organ Trio Heads-Up Thread

Hello everybody,
so I am finally done pushing my band towards organ trio gigs. This
summer we'll be hitting the underground of clubs and venues mostly
looking for a good glass of wine and some fresh air.

I am writing this message to get as many information/tricks/tips/
heads-up as possible since I am definitely sure I -will- slip on a
number of things. I don't want to land on my ass too much :D since it
hurts :D

First off, I think I should mention the following:

Gear: Nord C1 on its own legs, Roland PK-5. My rack has a Furman
AR1215 power conditioner, a Behringer rack mixer (16ch, don't
remember the name), and a DBX 166XL;
Pre-amp: nothing yet. Still have to buy one, looking for suggestions;
Amp: nothing yet. I still have to buy one - looking for suggestions;

Line-up: organ+drums+guitar (occasionally trumpet in replacement of
guitar or in addition to the trio).
Repertoire: jazz, jazz/blues, blues. Straight-ahead "out of a jam
sessions" (some borrowed from piano-jazz, other from JOS and similar
organ tunes) very well known standards. Some famous pop/rock songs re-
arranged in a jazz trio setting (swing/bossa etc.) something like
what Mehldau does, without his talent, of course :D

We'll be sometimes playing in places where people are actually
looking more for a hang-out rather than us, those situations where
you have to blend with the environment instead of standing out,
occasionally jumping over the average "diners" volume to let yourself
be heard (the famous: "tips, please" chords :)). There will be
situations where people will be occasionally more silent but you
should always consider the glass'n'fuss background noise of a place
that serves food and drinks.

Anything, I mean anything - that you want to write, write it. If it's
a joke, write it anyway, I am always for a good laugh. If it's a
serious tip, I'm all for that. I know there are some "bad" cats in
here and there is no better chance to grasp that one little real-
world lay-of-the-land tip than writing in here.
