Thank you Bruce.

My knowledge of electronics is minimal at best and I have never
understood tubes. What they really are what they do, why the do it,
and why is it considered better to have them sometimes, etc. I hear
many that extol their virtues, but have never really understood why.
That they sound warmer is evident, but to not know why, makes me feel
like I'm missing some great knowledge.

Do you have an suggestions for further novice-level reading?
