Personally, I have never felt like using a software synth for a live
performance (or a church service in my case) is reliable. I'm probably
just being hard headed about it, but I feel more comfortable with a
dedicated piano/organ. The chances of something going wrong seems less
likely with a dedicated board. What would happen if there was a stuck
note right in the middle of the song, or maybe the interface hangs for a
second or two. Even worse, what if the computer decides to freeze
requiring a reboot. Stuff like this makes me too paranoid to even think
of using software-based synths. Just my $.02 for ya.
