Subject:Hammond Chorus/Vibrato?

How is the Hammond Chorus/Vibrato made, the different settings? On a
console Hammond or one of the good clones, I listen to the Vibrato and
V2, V2 are kind of a nasty buzz, V1 is okay for some things. On the
other hand, Chorus, from C1 to C3 all sound nice. Yet the Chorus is
created in some way from the Vibrato. I don't get it.

I'm looking at an M3 which has a switch to change from Vibrato to
Chorus and a switch next to it to simply choose more or less of
whichever is selected. How are they doing this even at this simple
level?

Any explanation I can understand (LOL) will be greatly appreciated.
