Hi Jim,

There's no one right answer to your questions. It depends on which Leslie you choose, and what hardware is already on your B-3.

The "standard" B-3 Leslie connection is a 6-pin balanced connection, designed for a Leslie 122 or similar speaker. This was the standard all through the '60s and '70s. I have, however, seen other connections on B-3s: 5-pin, 6-pin unbalanced (147-style), 9-pin, and 11-pin -- all based on the Leslie that was connected to the organ. (Remember, during most of the B-3's manufacturing life, a Leslie Speaker was considered an unauthorized addition to a Hammond Organ! This encouraged customization.)

The modern Leslie design uses the 11-pin standard, as does the XK-3 and most other modern organs that have a built-in Leslie connection. Therefore, it would probably be easiest to use an 11-pin Leslie, along with an adapter option on the B-3. If you already have a 6-pin Leslie, or find a deal on one, it may be more practical to get an adapter option for the XK-3.

Another option would be to place a preamp pedal in the line with the Leslie, and connect either organ that way. It's fairly easy to tap out of the B-3's preamp to provide a line-level signal for the preamp, and of course, the XK-3 already has a 1/4" output.
