Subject:Re: Korg CX-3 Waterfall Keys
I like my XK1, but if you're using the simulator, definitely go with the CX3. The sim on the xk1 tugs.

The change was made in 2002 -- I can't remember exactly when. FWIW, I owned a CX-3 with the non-waterfall keys prior to the BX-3 I now own (exact same sound engine as the CX-3 v2). I didn't find a lot of difference to the feel of the earlier keys, which were NOT "diving-board" style; they had a flat side, but had a wide, dull, lip on them. The lip did not get in the way of palm glisses and such.
There was, however, a problem with key weights breaking free on the v1 (lipped) keybed; I haven't heard anything about the same in the v2 (waterfall) keybed.

The general consensus on the list will likely side to the XK-1. I beg to differ. Two other list members and I recently plugged an XK-3, an Electro, and a BX-3 (same sound engine) into my Leslie and played around for an afternoon. At a minimum, the BX-3 clearly held its own.
