Subject:RE: Leslie 3300 on it's way!
Interesting point regarding the starved plate design. Reading those
articles has me a little worried because I will be using the 3300 with
the digital Bx3 which has a lowish output. I am a little worried now.
I believe that tube preamp on the motion sound I was using previously
had a starved tube set up as well. I felt like the tube in the MS
helped the tone and I generally would set the mix to 75% tube 25% solid
state signal.
Well, they certainly are pretty to look at. That is a 24v starved plate
configuration in the 3300 preamp. Google "starved plate" +tube and read
several places that search takes you.
The 3300 overall design and how it's set up in general seems weird to
me (even though it's pretty - like a new and bigger Proline 330 with
more knobs), versus the simplicity of a Leslie or one of SE's 'L' RB's.
HS just gives me the creeps when I read the manual and their site how
things are put together. Eew. I'm glad the XK3 and XK1 turned out to
make quite a few owners happy - means HS is finally learning something
after about 30+ years. I don't trust them yet. Just my $0.02 cents
which has often served me well.. nothing personal. YMMV
