Subject:Re: RBII vs the new RBIII
Yer reading my mind Tony....I'd LOVE to A/B the RB2 and your new RB3 Convertible.
The only negative I can see in doing the A/B test is that being the diseased gear junky I am I will drool to want to buy the new unit...even though I do not gig with my current RB2 (or my hot rodded 145 for that matter).
As always of course the problem is finding the time to spare to schedule this adventure. My band has been gigging every weekend along with weekday "Summer Band in the Park" festivals and although we have a much needed next two weeks off from gigging they are already full with other stuff from the to do and want to do list. My next open weekend is the 24th-25th of August. I can't do the weekday things that we have done in the past either for a while, as my daytime business is also busy right now, and a couple of CA business trips are scheduled as well. Maybe the 24th-25th weekend, or over Labor Day weekend we can hook up and peal some paint off your studio's walls. I'll bring the ear plugs!
(besides, it's always way cool to watch Tony sit down for, oh ya know about two straight hours, and rip through every great classic rock keyboard riff known to man-kind in a non stop fashion. I swear I'm going to bring a video camera next time so when I get home I can review how some of the riffs are supposed to be played!)
On a side note to you Motif users.....I recently purchased the AN-150 analog modeling synth board for my ES Rack, and also purchased the Regenerator patch programs for it. The AN-150 by itself is no big deal, but the Regenerator patches are super phat! I've been incorporating them gradually into my gig rig/patches and have been really happy with how they sound. The best test has been not telling the band members and having them make statements like "Holy sh#t, what did you do to the synth patch on Never Been Any Reason? It's smokin' hot"! I've been testing them all at home so I'm sure my neighbors are not pleased with me....but what the heck, turn up the mains, fire up the subs and shake the walls and have fun!
Keep rockin'

I'm sure the RB2 isn't going anywhere. Enough folks want to maintain the integrity of the "original" leslie design that Speakeasy wouldn't consider it. And why should they? It's the best sounding leslie I've ever heard. I think the Rb3 AMA convertible rivals it (can't wait to A/B 'em Bob), but it is different because of the 2 piece concept and smaller cabinet design.
Just another option thanks to the Genii at Speakeasy.

I hope Speakeasy isn't considering discontinuing the RBII? I love my
standard Leslie looking RBII with the 250 watt amp. The AMA sitting on
top doesn't spoil the look at all - one could just as easily set it on
a chair or rack box at the side or behind if really being 'snorky'
about wanting just a Leslie look. Mine will growl, purr, scream, weep,
wail, moan.. and ALL that stuff that T is talking about - just
no "frying eggs" = yuk! (terminology breakdown for me :)
RBII is fantastic with big amp. And I'm sure if the extra volume wasn't
needed the 60w version would sound great too. Please keep these in the
Speakeasy arsenal. The big dawg amp/RBII comes with my 110% recommend.
