There is a setting in the Global area to minimize the changes; i.e., to prevent the percussion, vibrato, Leslie sim, etc. settings from changing with the preset. It's the last setting in the first bank of Global parameters, called "Prg. Change" with choices of "Int. Params" and "All Params." Your CX-3 is probably set to All Params.

That said, the CX-3 still stores individual settings for amp type, EQ, key click, leakage, etc. on a per-patch basis. When one changes programs, even with the above Global change, these differences will still happen. The only way to prevent this is to make all the patches similar. The easiest way to do this is to pick one patch whose overall tone is "perfect" for you, and then copy it to other presets. Then use the following method to change the drawbar settings per preset.

1. Select Drawbar1 or Drawbar2 for the Upper manual.
2. Set the drawbars to the proper position.
3. Hold down the Upper manual's Drawbar1 or Drawbar2 button, and tap the Drawbar Preset button. A "*" will appear in the preset name.
4. Rename and save the preset.
5. If you are using splits, the same approach works on the lower manual.

Most people like the v2 OS better. It has many new, useful features, and still supports some of the v1 features. It has a better sounding Leslie sim. The one major exception is that the vibrato level was reduced in v2, and most players (including this author) think Korg went too far in this respect.

With the exception of vibrato, you can get the same sound out of v2 -- just set the drawbar type to Bright (vs. Mellow), and your v1 sound will return.
