Subject:The Great AshbySolutions.com Cleanout

Hi All,

After much long and difficult deliberation, I've decided to call an end to AshbySolutions.com. I'll probably still offer the MIDI Solutions gear, plus the Halfmoon switches and foot pedal adapters, in the future. The regular retail business, though, is going away.

For those of you who aren't aware, there have always been two sides to Ashby Solutions: an engineering design service (my day gig), and the online music retail store (AshbySolutions.com). Running the music store has been a terrific learning experience. Unfortunately, the music business is changing drastically these days, and it's increasingly tough for a little guy to compete with the Sweetwaters and Guitar Centers of the world on mainstream gear. My music store has *never* come close to providing enough income to live on, but since 90% of the work that I did in the consulting was done from my home office and lab, I was able to keep both sides of the company in balance -- well, most of the time, anyway! ;-) -- shipping products and supporting customers.

In the last couple of years, though, the consulting side has been slowly deteriorating, due to a change in the business climate around Boston, MA. I've got a son entering college in the fall, and it's now reached the point where I have to consider going back to a "real job" -- i.e., a 9-to-5 position with a commute, and maybe a little traveling, too. This might even mean a move to another part of the county; there's a fair amount of activity in my field, but much of it isn't in the Boston area.

I'd like to thank everyone on this list who patronized my store, and I wanted to offer items from the remaining inventory at a reduced price to my extended Clonewheel "family." If you're interested, go to --
