Subject: Re: [CWSG] Motion Sound Pro-3X VS Pro-3Tm VS Leslie 2101
Since John Fisher is here, I want to ask you some questions. Why did you
ditch the tube?
The 12AX7EH is a very good tube but it is still the least reliable
part. Does FET provide warm and thicker sound like
tubes? The inherent non-linearity of a 12AX7 does color the sound some
by adding distortion. The components used in the tube circuit can "load"
the tube effecting if's linearity and thus sound. An FET transistor if
chosen carefully and "loaded" with the right surrounding components
behaves very mush like a 12AX7 and is far more reliable. There are many
solid state alternatives to tubes for generating very good distortion,
the method used in the C1 is a good example. What do you think about the
differences between Pro-3X and
3Tm? The PRO-3X is far more adjustable and can be made to sound like
several models of Leslie's. How do you tweak in order to get closer
sound to leslie? Motion Sound has never tried to go after the sound of a
122, we prefer the more modern feedback amplifier in the 147. Our market
is mostly younger musicians who want more power, brighter sound,
portability, (except for MS-1771R players), and more adjustability.
By the way, I could not disagree more with the comment that the 2101 is
"way louder" than a PRO-3X if you do not count the power from those 5"?
speakers. A simple measurement will answer the question.
