Subject:Re: What can I get for around $1500
Ben, thank you very much for taking the time to help me. I'm in Northern CA. and yep your right, can't find a source that will allow me to listen to or look at a keyboard of any quality. Most dealers say they can order it for me, and thats it. I think I might just go for the Hannond XK 1. I saw it for $1500. new on the net. It came with a stand , seat, expression pedel and case (soft). Like I said , I am no musician like the rest of you on this site, but it's just for my own entertainment. Used to have a M100 with a 122 Leslie, loved it but needed the room. Again thanks, Leon

All of us have favorites and are going to want to say, "get ______brand clone because it's the best", but that is just our subjective opinions. There are good & bad things about each brand. At different times I've owned at least one model from every brand except Korg, which I didn't personally care for that much, & now have a Hammond XM-2. Does that mean the Korgs aren't any good? Definitely not!!! There are many Korg owners who think thier brand is the best and thier reasons are just as legitimate as those of us who have other favorite brands. Conversely, does that mean the XM-2 is definitively the best answer for you? Again, definitely not!!! While in the long run there's a possibilty that it might be, right now
that's just my opinion & you may find that you don't care much for the sound of that particular line of clones. As for your options, to the best of my limited knowledge in this field: you should be able to hook up w/ a Hammond XK-1 for about $1500, as well as a Nord Electro (at least the 61 - not sure what they're asking for the 73 these days) The Roland VK line should be coming in around that price as well. Since there have been previous posts saying it would be hard to find a Korg for that price, if you end up liking Korg the best of all you might want to check on eBay. The bottom line is: don't let any one person or group of people's recommendations railroad you into getting thier personal favorite & don't let any of us decide for you. Find out where you can audition the all various brands (not an easy task - believe me, I know) & go for the one that best speaks to you. It may take longer to do it this way, but since it's your long-term satisfaction you're looking for
it would be well worth the extra time involved.
