I play in some small dives and invetiably there is some drunk who is
gesturing with the hand holding the beer and approaching me. I find it
is pretty effective to loudly say "NO, don't you dare!" while glaring
at them. It's the same treatment you might give a dog lying on the
forbidden sofa, but it works.

BTW, in the movie Galaxy Quest, there was a running joke about the
expendable ensign, Guy Fleegman. He understood that he was going to
die and was freaked about it. "You probably don't remember me, do you?
It's the sunglasses, right? I was on the show in '82. Episode 81. I
was Crewman Number Six. I got killed by a lava monster before the
first commercial."
