Subject:Re: soft shell case for XK3
Thanks for all the replies about cases for my XK3. You guys are
talking me into getting a hard shell case. A couple of questions
though. How much do the hard shell cases actually weigh? Some of them
come with wheels but are they light enough so that you could carry it
without dragging on the ground? Are there any models specifically
recommended?
I'm starting to play out more now, it's probably a good idea to
look into dollys and ramps. Thanks again for the replies.

Hi All,
I'll say this one more time: Any keyboard over 30-35 pounds (14-15kg)
SHOULD NOT be carried in a soft case, IMHO. This doesn't mean that
you CAN'T do it; it means that you SHOULDN'T do it. I have a friend
who carries his '67 Gibson SG (original owner, all-original guitar)
in a gig bag: he shouldn't do that either.
For keyboards, it's more important than guitars, though, because of
the extra weight. The whole idea of a case is to protect the item(s)
inside, right? Well, a 40+ lb. keyboard will end up absorbing the
shock in a collision between a wall and a soft case, protecting the
CASE, not the keyboard. So ask yourself, which one cost more money?
That's the item that should be protected.
I had a soft case for my Korg CX-3 when I first bought it. The case
looked like hell after a couple of months, and I sold it at a yard
sale for about $20. It's the first and only soft case I have ever
owned, and probably the only one I'll ever own. My guitar goes in a
hard case, as do my mics, mixers, etc.
Full Disclosure for the Cynical: Yes, I sell Gator Cases on my
website. However, you will not find a single soft or semi-hard case
listed on the site. I don't sell them. I won't even order one for
you, which probably makes me a bad salesman. But that's how strongly
I feel about this issue.
Regards,
-BW
