Subject:Re: XM-2 Leslie Sim.

I'm not going to try to tell you what should sound good to you. You
don't mention what you have tried so far so I'll just list a few
things and how they seem to affect the sound.

Angle: Too close together and the horn and drum seem to be "facing"
the front for a very short time. Maybe try 120 degrees and then 90.

Distance: If it is too close, the horn and drum seem to "pop" to the
front. You might try a little more than a meter (I forget the exact
distances).

You might also try a longer distance with a smaller angle and vice
versa. Too great an angle and distance and you start to lose
the "Leslie" effect.

Try increasing the ramp up and down times a little to bring out the
transition between speeds a little more. Also try different cabinet
types. If you are using two amps for stereo, try keeping them close
together and make sure they are situated so that the sound passes
from one to the other and then goes around back. If they are
backwards, the sound is more like going from the outsides to the
middle or the middle to the outsides - like the beaters on a cake
mixer. You can see this by connecting the outputs to a mixer with
meter bars and watching the low rotor and horn turn. Use the mixer's
EQ or the XM-2's Leslie settings (pg. 68 #'s 5 & 12) to turn the
volume on one down so you can see and hear the other. Since they are
turning in opposite directions the meter bars may not show both
together accurately.

Good Luck.

Also, the Expression settings (pg.58 #'s 12 - 14 in the XK-3 man.
probably close to that in the XM-1 man.) have an effect on the
overall tone. The smaller the number that 13 & 14 are set to
(actually since it is a negative number it probably is a larger
number), the brighter the overall sound at full or close to full
volume (pedal position not overall setting). In addition, check the
expression calibration setting (#15) to make sure that the volume is
reaching "127" on the monitor display when the pedal is fully
depressed.
