Actually I have had both UPS and Fedex damage valuable and delicate items. UPS smashed an EMS Putney vintage synth and Cricklewood keyboard for me, and never got anything out of it, and Fedex forklifted a nice hole into one JBL LSR28P, the carbon fiber model. .At least the shipper B&H photo covered that. You takes your chances.

I've had more things damaged by FedEx than UPS, and if you use the UPS STORE to pack the item, they have no recourse but to pay. It's worked wonderfully for me so far.

I would avoid UPS, use FedEx or DHL if you can. I have seen numerous examples with family and friends of negligently damaged shipments and trouble with UPS afterwards getting things right even if insured. I was given this advise by a professional speaker repairman who ships heavy delicate items frequently.

Definitely ship the tubes in a separate box. Never ship an amp with

the tubes still in it. You can be about 99.9% sure by the time it's

delivered those tubes will be in pieces. I had to learn this the hard

way. I was lucky though. Only one tube ended up in pieces, the rest

just came out of their sockets.

I agree with Tony all the way, take it to the shipping carrier and

have them do the packing.
