Subject:XM-2 (Was Harmonic Beatng, HS, etc.)
I've had the XM-2 since last November. It's a great sounding unit. I also experienced the quality control problems Tony mentions & returned the unit twice. The 3rd. one has worked well for me though. I'm in agreement w/ the general concensus if the group: the Leslie sim is not very good. As I've stated in the past, turning it on makes the unit sound like it's suddenly developed a bad head cold. Out of all the Clone brands it seems to cry out for some Speakeasy Vintage assistance more than the others, but once thats applied it can stand toe-to-toe w/ the best of them. To reinforce what jjimcs49 says, the tweakability on the chorus is a real plus. My own settings are 0 for the tremolo & 9 for the emphasis. I like the ability to set the chorus level on each of the 3 settings too. On ch.1 I have it fairly subtle, ch.2 is right where I like it most of the time & ch3 is for when, to quote Tony quoting Nigel Tufnel, you want to take it "over the top" for things like the Charles Earland sound or songs like The Cat. For occasions where I did have to use the internal Leslie I liked the fact that you can set it to retain the present Leslie speed when you change patches. It will do the same for the ch./vib. settings, overdrive & a few others (oh yeah, almost forgot it will do that for the lower manual setting too - so if you're using the 838000000 lower manual setting it only changes your upper manual setting that way). You can set it so it does change all those settings w/ patch change if you prefer.
