Subject:Re: Jazz Hammond sound and clones
There is a small update to the Diversi website. There are now some audio clips featuring one of the Diversi Artists, Rodney Bradley. We promised that we would keep the list updated with the latest news.

I think the reason the new Italian clone seemed so exciting was that we were
hearing clips of a fairly pure jazz sound. No overdrive, no thunky overly
loud percussion, just a good sound. That's what translates well into a fairly
low tech recording.
I am not going to name any names, but "other" clips I have heard, while I
would agree that they may have an interesting character seem somehow different
than a real tonewheel beast.
I have heard Hammond clones that seem to add additional animation to the
sound. Some I have heard with percussion that extends into the upper octave in
an aggressive manner. Some have overdrive that sounds like fuzz. Some have obnoxious artificial keyclick. All the tube preamps and amp modelers in the
world are not going to change these characteristics.
I would love to see some examples posted from ANY of the manufactures or
even some list people that offer some examples of pure organ sound (
particularly the jazz sound) that could fool some of us "experts".
The Diversi challenge was one attempt at this..... and I was actually
fooled by some examples - however these were mainly gospel settings , featuring a lot of fast leslie spinning etc. that made it a bit harder to judge .
The latest Italian offering stirred a lot of interest, for good reason. I
would be interested in hearing more in the form of a more direct recording, or from any others that think they've "got it".
