Playing a Hammond Console, (not unlike a pipe organ) requires a great deal
of coordination and physical manipulation. And it's not only the location
and feel of the drawbars. Just watch a good Hammond player and you will see
it. You have to have the Leslie switch in the right position, the
chorus/vibrato tabs have a certain feel to them and are within easy reach,
the percussion switches are to the upper right and within easy reach of the
right hand, the pedals are placed precisely (and angled) for easy playing,
the expression pedal location, etc.



I am sorry, but no matter how great the C1 sounds I just can't deal with the
unconventional musician interface. Maybe if I did not still play real B3's I
could get used to it, but I still do (90% of the time). So why should I
perform with an instrument that forces ME to compromise?



I feel that Clavia is arrogant to think that Hammond players will conform to
their standard, when we have been playing B3's, A100's, C3's, etc. for
decades. If they don't want our business, then screw them. I can play a
ProXK System that is 75% true to any of my B3's at home and sounds just as
good as the C1.

In fairness to all, we are talking about a MAJOR component of the Hammond
experience. This is not to say there isn't adjustment, or that it's not a
major adjustment, but to totally 'pooh-pooh' the thing doesn't make much
sense.

Perspective: I've been playing my Electro since I got it 3 years ago, and
I've gone through phases with other clones in the meantime, but now that
it's my only clone again, I have bought some Drawbars to control it because
for those very subtle colorations and 'in the moment' adjustments, I find
the buttons aren't making it for me. But I have made do without.

The C1 is a great organ, no doubt about it.

Some guitarists can't STAND the Floyd Rose Tremolo, some can't stand the
Bigsby, some can't stand ANY tremolo, some can't play without it. All are
valid opinions, and yet none are SO valid that it renders the rest wrong.

I agree 100%!! Being a Hammond player for years, I thought I'd
never get over selling my "REAL THING" in 1980. Tony Monaco said
it best referring to technology catching up. I played the C1
at NAMM and was very pleased with it over all. No matter what
manufacturers do, someone will always have some sugggestion, idea
or quirk to improve their product. Be it clone, guitar, synth etc.
it still comes down to "THE PLAYER."
