Unload Hammond and Leslie from truck
Roll both in (one at a time)
Pull of covers and ROKs.
Plug in two cables
PLAY
No tweaking, guitar cables, pedals and assorted other BS.
Just had another birthday so back to clones.
The B3 time/movement deal sounds good in theory until you have to hump one by yourself.
I used to do it all by myself but now that I've "seasoned" some I have to make a decision. Physical pain or audio pain.
Terrible choice

Interesting point... I agree that regarding trips to the car (or truck in
the case of using a real B3), nothing beats the real thing. Two trips, max.
This is what I have to do.
1. Roll in my XK3
2. Carry in my XLK3
3. Pack the rest (SRM450, Leslie 2101, Speakeasy AMA, two stands, cable bag,
and bench) onto a rock cart.and roll it in.
4. Plug it in and play!
So three trips.
4. Set up stands.
5. Put the 2101 on one stand
6. Place the Mackie next to it
7. Put the SE AMA rack on top of the 2101. pull out all the cables
8. Unpack the XKL3 and put it on the stand
9. Run the MIDI cables from the XKL3 through the hole in the bottom and plug
in the expression pedal
10. Unpack the XK3 and put it on top of the XLK3 - be careful not to get
your fingers caught as it fits perfectly on the XKL3!
11. Plug in the MIDI cables to the XK3
12. Run all cables to the SE and Mackie
13. Run all AC cords from the components (4) to the power strip
14. Turn everything on and hope it works!!!!
Total set-up time.. About 20-25 minutes
So its light, but in many pieces and parts.

Although I have very strong opinions about what Hammond sounds I like and
what I think a B3 should sound like, I also appreciate the fact that we all
have different ears and tastes.
As Hammond players we're lucky we have such a broad pallet of
instruments/clones from which to choose.
I have alwaya searched for the best clone to simply downsize and make set up
and tear down as painless as possible.
When you think about it, a B3/Leslie has about the quickest set up there is.
For a one Leslie/Hammond rig it's two cables, covers, ROKs then out.
Clones need to also be simple. If it takes more time to set up a small rig,
then I question where the savings in time and effort come in. I often find
myself making at least two or three trips to the van for cases, bench, stand
and so one. I do have a Rock Cart so that does reduce time to a degree.
Yes, the B3 is a monster to move. BUT I'm in and out in a few minutes less
physical exertion.
SO-back to the clone of choice for a compromise.
BTW, I got the manual and OS #.

I guess I'm the only one that thinks this, but I never did care for B4
or B4 II at all. Everything sounded decent with chorale on. However,
when you switched to tremolo, the tone was rather pitchy. I did some
recordings a while back using the original B4, and I worked 2 or 3
months on it (this wasn't a professional project). At the very end I
scrapped the whole thing because of that pitchyness in the B4 program.
A short time later I bought a VK-8m then several months down the road
a VK-8. I liked it much better than the B4 simulator, however, it was
almost too mellow. In the end I went to my first true love.....a
Leslie speaker. When you've been spoiled by playing a Hammond C3 thru
a Leslie 122, you just can't make any compromises. My current rig
using a Hammond XK3, Speakeasy vintage tube preamp, Leslie 142, and
now a Leslie 45 too, there are no more voids left to fill. I get the
sound I want, and will never go back to my simulator days.
