You guys know what a leslie fascist I am. But if B4 can be as convincing as it is (and it is, the only sim through an amp that I can actually feel), its within reach.

First of all, it has so far been impossible to accurately simulate a real
Leslie. Sorry, the physical qualities of real moving air cannot be simulated
electronically. Anyone who believes otherwise is fooling themselves. (Gee, I
just spent $3000 on this clone and it sounds like the real thing!). Sorry,
it doesn't.
I will always use a real Leslie when performing. There is no substitute.
So find a clone that has the best sound engine, use a real tube preamp
(Speakeasy), and a real tube Leslie (even the 2101 with Steve's AMA will
do).
Here is an interesting aside. I went over to my friend Austin's house a
couple of weeks ago. He was playing an old analogue CX3 (1st generation)
through his Leslie 145. It sounded pretty damn good! So the real Leslie is
about 75% of the sound (IMHO)..

After about 15 minutes I have to say I'm disappointed in the Electro.
The Leslie is a bit too much. And I've noticed the slightest hint of the old
XK phasing sound when the Leslie is in tremolo mode. Is it possible I've got
my hands on an old OS and these issues are addressed in newer downloads?
The sound is muddy in the middle of the keyboard and from there down it's
lost in the mix. Without the percussion for definition it's a matter of
jumping on the volume knob to try to elevate the sound.
There is some idiotic midrange sound to it that just won't go away no matter
how I tweak it. Unfortunately, that "sound" or "frequency" rears it's ugly
head in all of the draw bar settings.
As I've always found with clones it's an "either" "or" situation.
Good sound/bad sim, good sim/bad sound, bad sim/good vibrato.
As I've learned over the years, a good all around clone just doesn't exist.
I'm going to give it a couple of more days of work and if I can't get an
improvement in sound it has to go back. Besides, having it become work ain't
no fun.
I'm a run and gun player. I don't have time to attempt tweaks that don't
appear to be possible.
At least the XK3 is 95% out of the box. At least the Nord I have doens't
even touch the XK3 engine.
I guess in a word it sounds fake. Or a feeble attempt at a Hammond clone.
With all of the dough I've laid out for clones and keyboards I could have
had S&S chop up three organs.
So far it looks like the XK3 still has the clones beat with the exception of
that weak Leslie sim and vibrato.
Too bad-so close yet so far.........
