Subject:Re: Anyone got the XK1?
I picked up my XK1 two days ago, and tonight I start a six night tour
with it. Yesterday I spent a couple of hours tweaking to my heart's
content.
All I can say is - this thing ROCKS. I have owned a VK7, CX3
(digital), and Nord electro, and was suspicious of all things Hammond-
suzuki for years. I loved all of the clones I owned in different ways
but the XK1 nails it for me. I have a critical ear, and I think the
XK1 leslie sim gets closer to 'the sound' than anything, even the
electro and the B4. It's warm, wide, detailed, exciting, and natural
sounding. The overdrive is better than the CX3, the C/V is good, the
key click vastly preferable to the electro, the percussion and the
raw tonewheel sound are streets ahead of the non H-S clones. Recently
I'd been using the B4 (v2) live and loved it's overall tone including
how the 'air' parameter nailed that leslie cabinet resonance thing.
This is one aspect of the tone that I began to realise was missing
from almost all the clones I had played.
But guess what - I found a way to cheat this effect out of the XK1,
using the delay, and now it sounds perfect. Impressive tweakability
and some nice options for choosing which parameters are recalled with
each preset round off it's flexibility for live performance.
My advice is go check this thing out - play it in the store, look at
the price tag, and rejoice!
