Subject:Re: Thinking (And thinking...)
Both of you have brought up some good points. I get
to play the 'real deal' only on rare occasions -
usually a session when organ is called for, and
there's a Hammond in the studio. I've owned a V5, and
currently use a VK-8M. I did have a cut down M3 years
ago, with a Leslie 147; but eventually the portability
issues moved me into clonewheel territory. And there I
stay, for the time being; yet it always seems that I'm
trying to improve on my clonewheel 'sound'...
Granted, the use of a actual rotary cabinet helps a
lot. But it would be great to hear a vintage Hammond
put through my RB lll. Currently I'm wondering if
taking the plunged into a Muse Receptor is worth the
$$$, as I use NI B4 in my home setup. Plus, the
Receptor has a lot of other great sound applications.
Side to side, the B4 outclasses the VK-8M - to my ears
and those of a few fellow players that have been over
to my space. But the difference is less pronounced
when I A/B the two units through my RB lll (Same
results when I was using a Leslie 44W). So, I'm
wondering if the Receptor is worth the investment.
Plus, I'm curious as to how the new Hammond module
will sound when it hits the streets. Though I must
admit I'm still a tad sore at Hammond/Suzuki for their
bonehead corporate move with Speakeasy...
