Subject:CX-3: Display help

Hey folks, it's been awhile. Glad to see the CWSG is still going strong.

I still have my trusty v1 CX-3 (with lipped keys. Has it really been 5
years already?), but have gotten to the point where I want to upgrade
the firmware. Now, you're probably thinking "Why the heck didn't he
do this 4 years ago?"

I have a great answer: After I had my CX for a little over a year, the
display started to crap out. It didn't really bother me, as I had two
basic presets (one for a MS rotary stack, and one for going direct).
I never really needed any of the other sounds. After the new firmware
came out, I played a new CX in-store. I liked the re-voicing, and some
of the other little tweaks, but I wasn't in a hurry to change mine.
At the time, I had a pretty crap MIDI setup, and didn't like the
thought of turning my CX into an Incredible Tonewheel Modeling Doorstop.

Fast forward to, well, now. I'd like to get the firmware upgraded,
but I'm not attempting it blindly. A few months ago, I exchanged a
series of emails with a tech at Futaba (who makes the CX VFD display),
and attempted a couple of fixes on the unit. Unfortunately, it was
unsalvageable.

So, any ideas where I might get a VFD? I'd rather not spend a load of
cash on it, if possible. If anyone knows of a dead CX-3 being parted
out, please point me in the right direction. Thanks.

Jon
