I found the right cord. It does seem like with a MIDI cable the upper rotor changes normally while the lower rotor always spins the same speed - faster than slow and slower than fast. Just for fun I tried an old Hi-Fi DIN cord and that worked okay. I think they used all five pins - you can use a Din for MIDI, but not the other way around, except, if I remember, with the old Atari ST computers - one of which I still have! They used the inactive pins in some way for MIDI thru.

similar, have only two active leads. You need an all-pins active
cable. It says so somewhere in the fine print in the LoPro documentation

Belden and a few others make 'em, this is not a huge problem. but 'any
old' MIDI cable will not work
