Subject:Re: MS PRO-145 Mics Replacement

Hi John et al,

I've been using SM57's for over ten years, at the recommendation of Al Goff: two on the horn, and one on the rotor. (We run in stereo on all gigs.) I did a couple of things that you might consider:

- I hunted down three of the pro-style windscreens for the SM57. These are not always easy to find, but they attach semi-permanently with a set screw, and greatly reduce the wind noise. The screen for a condenser mic might work in a pinch.

- I permanently mounted one mic clip top and bottom on the side furthest from the rotors. I didn't use the stock Shure mic clip; instead, I got the kind that have a "rubbery" feel to them. They used to sell them at Radio Shack -- maybe they still do? -- but there are other places to get them. I then mounted two of those round desk adapters to the case -- but not the regular way; instead, I used a long screw through the middle, with rubber washers top and bottom to reduce motor noise. For a mono setup, it only takes about five seconds to install the mics. For a stereo setup like mine, another mic stand or boom is needed at the far end.

I used to sell the mono mounting kit on Ashby Solutions, but there wasn't much call for them, and I stopped. Hit me offline for more details if you're interested.

Regards,

-BW
