Subject:Hum coming from my Speakeasy VTP
I've had my Speakeasy preamp for several months and just now discovered
that there is a very evident hum in the audio. I never paid attention to
it when I was using my 44W as it's common to hear a hum from the field
coil speaker. When I switched over to the 122 amp, the hum was still
there. I thought it was a bad set of 6550 tubes and replaced them, but
the hum remained. It almost matches the pitch of a B natural on the
keyboard. I went thru the audio chain one by one. When connected via
1/4" cable from the preamp to my mixer, without the Leslie plugged in,
the hum was still there. If I turn the volume all the way to 0, the hum
does not decrease nor increase, but if I turned the treble and bass all
the way down, the hum almost disappears. The preamp seems to be picking
up faint radio waves as well. Any ideas what the cause might be?
